A news report was released this week regarding a study made at the University of Gothenburg which states what many of us feared:
Boys are at an alarming rate sitting still more and more.
The study has not been released yet but excerpts can be read in this article. [Swedish only]
According to the study, conducted by Anders Raustorp et al, in the beginning of the 2000’s boys at the age of eleven to twelve moved at an average of 16670 steps per day. In 2013 that number was down to 12’704, a cut of 24%.
The study noticed the rise in screentime and smart phone usage probably is to blame:
”– Boys seems to be more absorbed by their smartphones, by the possibilities of games” Anders says.
